How to Generate your own electricity at home

The Power of Energy Independence – How to Generate Your Own Domestic Electricity from Solar

Generating your own electricity is easier and more affordable than ever before. The technology used is cost-effective and mature, having reached its peak level in terms of performance and reliability. The prices available now have been stable for three years, and are likely to remain at their lowest possible point in the foreseeable future.

As long as you have somewhere free on your roof, in your backyard, or in your garden, you can generate adequate electricity to power your home and offset your energy costs. With the Voltacon hybrid energy storage system, you can reduce the cost of your energy bills from 50% to 100% and become truly power independent.

The technology used in photovoltaic panels and inverters has reached a high level of efficiency and reliability. Stable performance means you can generate more electricity without running costs, with a return on your investment likely in less than 5 years. In addition, the batteries used to store power last 12-15 years, require no maintenance, and occupy much less space than ever before. With no hazardous chemicals exposed and batteries fully insulated and protected from electric shocks, they are extra-safe for domestic use.

The Voltacon hybrid energy storage system runs completely silent, with no fans used and no harmful heat generated. The technology used is world-class and 100% safe for installation in your house, garage, utility room, warehouse, or office.

How the system works in six simple steps:

  1. As the heart of your solar system, the inverter has a built-in battery charger to convert DC power from the solar panels to usable AC power for your home appliances. The inverter also charges the batteries, with lithium ion or lead acid batteries both available with no maintenance.
  2. The inverter charges and feeds excessive energy to your home/office appliances.
  3. When the batteries are fully charged, all the solar power is fed to your home appliances.
  4. If there is not adequate solar power, the inverter will use the stored energy from the batteries.
  5. At night, the inverter will feed the stored energy from the batteries to the household.
  6. The excessive energy can be fed back to the national grid if you have a contract with the distribution network operator (DNO). Otherwise, you can simply set the inverter to cease production.

If you have an economy rate service with your electricity supplier, you can use readily available cheap electricity to charge your batteries at night. The inverter has an internal timer where you can easily set the charging time. This also works in inverse. If you are expecting a nice sunny day, you can disable charging at night and run on full solar power.

Energy storage can be installed/retrofitted with existing systems

If you already have a feed-in tariff system, you sell electricity back to the grid. You can retrofit an energy storage device with an AC-charging inverter. You don’t have to alter the existing installation, and your feed-in tariff (FIT) payment won’t be impacted. With this technology, you simply have more power to manage your own energy and use it according to your needs and wishes.

How many solar panels do I need to generate enough electricity?

An average mid-terrace property has enough surface for 6-8 solar panels. Detached houses are generally suitable for 8-12 solar panels. Average energy consumption is between 8 kWh and 10 kWh per day for a typical 3-4 bedroom property.

  • 6 panels = 1860 Watt (1684 kWh per annum)
  • 8 panels = 2480 Watt (2232 kWh per annum)
  • 10 panels = 3100 Watt (2790 kWh per annum)
  • 12 panels = 3720 Watt (3348 kWh per annum)
  • 14 panels = 4340 Watt (3906 kWh per annum)
  • 16 panels = 4960 Watt (4464 kWh per annum)
